In today's mail, I received a response from the Woodbury Police Department, specifically from the Public Safety Deputy Director. He informed me that the department is still investigating the incident, and that they do not have to release any information concerning the investigation until "final disposition". He enclosed the relevant state statutes. They support his position. I expected this response from Woodbury, since they are not handling the criminal investigation, but rather the disciplinary investigation, which involves an employee's employment record. I just wanted them to know that people have not forgotten the incident, and that we will be watching to see if the officer is treated like a member of the public, or will be given special preference due to his day job.
Again, I have nothing against the individual officer, I merely want him to be held to the same standard that I would be. The officer was not on duty at the time of the incident, nor was he in the city that employs him as an officer. In my book, that makes him John Q. Citizen, just like myself.
Thanks to the Woodbury Police Department for their prompt response.
