Okay.
First, no one hates child molesters and sexual predators more than myself. I think that those convicted of sexually abusing children should be put away forever on their first strike, with no chance for parole. I'm not talking about the 18 year old arrested for having sex with his 17 year old girlfriend, either. That's ludicrous. I mean the kinds of trash that would molest infants, toddlers and preteens. In my opinion, these kinds of people are "hard wired" for this behavior, and they will not change. Sexual criminals have the highest recidivism rates of all people in prison. A recent example would be the waste of humanity that is Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. here in Minnesota and North Dakota. However, the key word is convicted. Ohio is apparently putting together legislation that would allow "sex offenders to be publicly identified and tracked even if they've never been charged with a crime."
Well, how do we know if they're a sex offender if they've never been charged or convicted, and no evidence has been presented? What if your neighbor down the street has a problem with you painting your house that weird color, and merely wants you out of the neighborhood? Might he or she be tempted to drop a false dime on you? Imagine the legal and social headaches of having to prove a negative of the importance of a sexual crime. How can you present a refutation of the case against you, when no case has been presented against you?
Reading further in the article, we find out who came up with this travesty:
"The concept was offered by Roman Catholic bishops as an alternative to opening a one-time window for the filing of civil lawsuits alleging child sexual abuse that occurred as long as 35 years ago."
So these scummy bishops, who have been shipping pedophile priests around the country for decades in order to hide their behavior and avoid responsibility, leaving thousands of children scarred for life, want to prevent their cookie jar from being raided by victims of these priests, come up with a scheme to label everyone with a finger pointed at them with a sex offender label, and Ohio buys it. Due process is no more there, I guess.
I hope they begin with putting every Roman Catholic priest in Ohio on the list. They seem to be the ones with the worst track record.
