Ban City

The New York City Council, apparently having solved all of the other problems in the town, has gone on a banning spree during 2006. This article from the New York Post details some of the many things that are now illegal in New York City, including:

* Trans-fats.
* Aluminum baseball bats.
* The purchase of tobacco by 18- to 20-year-olds.
* Foie gras.
* Pedicabs in parks.
* New fast-food restaurants (but only in poor neighborhoods).
* Lobbyists from the floor of council chambers.
* Lobbying city agencies after working at the same agency.
* Vehicles in Central and Prospect parks.
* Cell phones in upscale restaurants.
* The sale of pork products made in a processing plant in Tar Heel, N.C., because of a unionization dispute.
* Mail-order pharmaceutical plans.
* Candy-flavored cigarettes.
* Gas-station operators adjusting prices more than once daily.
* Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.
* Wal-Mart.

Pit bull dogs are apparently the first planned ban out of the gate for 2007. Isn't it just nice of them to be everyone's nanny, so that they don't have to go to the trouble of thinking for themselves? God forbid a Wal-Mart should come to town to save the residents some money.
