A state senator in New York has introduced legislation to ban "spinning" rims on cars. You know the kind, the big wheels with the inserts that keep revolving after the car comes to a stop. They seem to be very popular among the urban youth. The proposed fine would be up to $750 for multiple violations.
Why? What possible reason could justify banning a cosmetic feature that hasn't caused a single problem, ever? As far as I can tell, the only damage done by these spinners are to the owners' wallets, as they are apparently not cheap. Are they going to ban shiny paint jobs and chrome trim next, so that drivers don't get distracted by a pretty car?
I'm sure glad for the residents of New York that all of their other problems have been solved, so that their legislature has time to deal with important topics like this one.
