Let's play "Twenty Reasons"

Senator Jeff Sessions, R-Alabama, has helpfully digested the close-to-1000 page immigration bill that is pending in the Senate, and has come up with a summary of 20 reasons why this bill is a very bad deal, and how the legislation ends up being true "amnesty" for illegal immigrants, no matter what the bill's supporters say about it.

Here's a couple of my favorites from the list:

1. Legal Status Before Enforcement.

Once an application is filled out and 24 hours have passed, the illegal alien is automatically granted probationary status that will not expire, even if the enforcement procedures are delayed or never implemented. How is this not amnesty?

18. Back Taxes Not Required.

How do I sign up for this? Illegals will only have to pay taxes on income earned after amnesty is filed for, not any that were due on wages earned before that date. Even though many illegals are much heavier users of government services than U.S. citizens, they get a free pass on paying for the services that they have used prior to filing for amnesty.

14. In-state Tuition and Student Loans.

This is basically the DREAM Act, which lets illegal immigrants receive in-state tuition at state colleges and universities, even while denying that benefit to out-of-state students, and residents that haven't lived in the state long enough to establish residency. Move here from Idaho? You've got to wait six months to a year to get in-state tuition. Here illegally? You qualify immediately. Yeah, that's fair.

4. Three Additional Years Worth of Illegal Aliens Granted Status, Treated Preferentially To Legal Filers.

This shoots down the bull that we're told about "illegal aliens going to the back of the line". Any illegal here by January 1, 2007 gets to have immediate amnesty, while foreign nationals that that applied to come here after May 1, 2005 must start the application process all over again from their home countries. This is a kick in the teeth to the poor saps who do things the right way, only to be knocked aside by the hordes of illegals.

The other 16 reasons are just as sickening as these beauties. This bill is nothing more than a free pass for all illegal aliens here today, at the expense of the rule of law in this country. Anyone who denies that this is a complete and total amnesty bill is either misinformed or a liar.

I heard a very pithy statement about this debacle the other day. I wish I could remember the author, so that I could credit them properly:

"We've sold our national sovereignty for inexpensive yardwork and cheap produce".
