A salute to a truly professional police officer

Since I call attention to so many officers who shouldn't qualify to wear a badge and have authority over the rest of us, it's only fair to note acts of true professionalism by those in the law enforcement field.

Elko County, Nevada Deputy Sheriff Mike Moore had the unenviable task of arresting his own wife, who is herself a deputy sheriff, for drunk driving last Saturday. She was off-duty at the time, thank God.

Mrs. Moore seemed to not appreciate the interruption of her good time:

"Two separate accounts of the incident by Mike Moore indicate she was initially pulled over for either speeding or making an illegal turn, according to a police report.
She allegedly left before being administered a portable breathalyzer test.Mike Moore pulled her over again and called the Elko Police Department for backup. He left shortly after officer Shane Daz arrived. Elko Police Department Sgt. Mark Butterfield was also on scene."

I'll bet that was an interesting dinner conversation at their home later that day.

In all seriousness, kudos to Deputy Moore, the Elko County Sheriff's Department, and the Elko Police Department for their professionalism and fairness in resolving an obviously uncomfortable situation.

"Although this traffic stop was different than most, officers treated the stop as they would any other time a deputy calls for backup, Police Chief Mike Smith said."

Outstanding. Good for them.
