Democratic New York Governor Eliot Spitzer is in quite a bit of hot water over Troopergate, which is the label given to the situation of his goons being caught using public safety resources to perform surveillance on Joseph Bruno, the Republican State Senate Majority Leader.
How hot? Hot enough to call in the cavalry, it seems.
Spitzer has apparently decided that the best way to make all of his problems go away is to swerve to the extreme left, in a strategy that's seen as a blatant attempt to line up supporters and dollars from special interest groups as well as organizations such as MoveOn.org:
"In the last week alone, Spitzer said New York would provide driver's licenses to illegal immigrants with passports, he ended requirements for interviews and fingerprints to get food stamps and also plans to sue Washington over its denial of his plan to expand a health insurance program to cover children whose families earn up to $82,600. Spitzer also wants to hike the hotel tax again to build a more expensive Javits Convention Center, an idea favored by unions."
This is the man who was going to "bring a new dawn of ethical responsibility to state politics". No one to date has been fired over Troopergate. Some responsibility.
To sum up: A politician who was caught red-handed using official state resources to play political games now has the audacity to give out taxpayer money like Santa Claus in order to plead for skirts to hide behind. It's good to see that he's back to his sue-happy ways again, as well.
