See what happens when government runs health care?

A British man immigrates to New Zealand in order to work at a job that has a critical shortage of qualified people. He applies to bring his wife over as well, and she is refused because officials say that she is "too fat" according to her body mass index (BMI), and will be too big of a drain on the national health care system there.

Actually, the man, Richie Trezise, was himself initially refused entry for the exact same reason, and the government only relented after he dieted enough to lose two inches from his waist.

This, in spite of the fact that Mr. Trezise was recruited heavily to come to New Zealand in the first place, as he is currently one of only four people in the entire country qualified to do his job.

This is the kind of crap that goes on when the government is put in total charge of health care. Since the resources are finite, they must be rationed, and low-level self-important government bureaucrats begin making all sorts of decisions regarding private citizens' personal lives that they have no business doing, all in the name of "public health".

Incidentally, it is possible to have a high BMI while being completely healthy. Bodybuilders are a classic example. BMI is just one tool for evaluating one's health status, not the only indicator by any means.

Do you want the Imperial Federal Government involved in every aspect of your life and personal decisions? Push for nationalized health care, then, because that will give the commissars all the reason they need to insert rules and regulations about everything, and I mean everything, that happens in your daily existence. After all, they only "care about you" enough to be so interested in controlling your diet, exercise and personal habits.
