Hitler Obama Youth

Democratic Presidential candidate Barack Obama has unveiled a new plan for compulsory "volunteer" national service by all of the nation's young people, and I've only seen it reported in one place.

"'We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we've set,' he said Wednesday. 'We've got to have a civilian national security force that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well funded.'
He said he would make federal assistance conditional on school districts establishing service programs and set the goal of 50 hours of service a year for middle and high school students."
(Emphases mine)

Is anyone else frightened about the idea of a huge, well-funded group of heavily indoctrinated youth performing amorphous, poorly-defined "services" under the sole authority of yet another massive Federal department, which would be the only agency the throngs would be answerable to? Will their issued uniforms also consist of brown shirts and snazzy logos? I seem to recall that another country went down this road 60 years or so ago, and it didn't work out so well. I don't think that I'm stretching things to invite the following comparison:

I'm sure Obama will tell us more about his plan for a military auxiliary during his political rally acceptance speech at Invesco Field in Denver next month. You'd better act fast, though. There's only 75,000 seats available.

"Loving your country must mean accepting your responsibility to do your part to change it."

..."into Obama's vision of what America should be, otherwise you're not a good American" is the underlying message of that statement. I beg to differ.
