The BATFE, the original "jack-booted thug" government agency that regularly attempts to shut down without due process gun shops that are found to have a single unaccounted-for firearm (not to mention trying to shutter some for the most trivial of paperwork errors), has admitted that its agents have lost 76 firearms and 418 laptops over the last five years, triple the rate of loss that was found in the last audit.
"Carelessness" was cited as the reason for 53 percent of the missing weapons:
"Some of the others were left in public places or lost in shipping -- or their losses were still unexplained."
And, of course, no employees whatsoever have been disciplined over the losses.
Are "I was careless" and "Duh, I don't know what happened to it" adequate excuses for the gun shops? NO. Then why are they pitifully offered up to us as reasons for why public property is treated so poorly by the same fellows that demand 100% accountability "or else" from the Federal Firearms Licensees under its jurisdiction?
What's worse, in at least two instances the stolen firearms were subsequently used in crimes. Why don't you go sue the ATF, Mayor Bloomberg? They are a confirmed source of some of the illegal guns on your city's streets.
If I owned a gun store, I would post this article on my front door, so that when the pompous agents showed up to see whether or not purchasers made the horrible error of putting "Y" and "N" on their paperwork instead of "Yes" and "No", I could then point out the hypocrisy of those boobs checking to see if my house was in order.
