Another illegal immigrant who " is only here to work hard and get ahead" has pleaded guilty to causing an innocent Arizona citizen's death because he crashed into the person's car while driving drunk.
Alonso Pena-Reyes was driving the wrong way on the freeway and ignoring officers that were trying to stop him when he hit and killed a Chandler resident. Pena-Reyes blew a .24 BAC after the accident, three times the legal limit. He now faces 18 years of prison (at taxpayer expense, of course) before being booted out of the country.
Again, the majority of illegal aliens don't behave like the one in this case. But a significant percentage do, as evidenced by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office study released yesterday that shows that 19% of convicted felons overall, including 20% of the perpetrators in felony DUI cases, were illegal aliens. If Pena-Reyes had not been in this country, that resident would be alive today. The same goes for the four Minnesota children who were killed when another illegal alien apparently without any driver training whatsoever ran a stop sign and smashed into their bus.
These case unfortunately decisively disprove the argument that "illegal immigration doesn't hurt anyone".
Drivers in this country should not have to be apprehensive about whether someone who isn't in this country legally is going to injure or kill them or their families through negligent or impaired driving. Further, since most illegal drivers don't carry insurance and don't have a large amount of money to pay for their irresponsible actions, the innocent motorists also face the ruining of their lives financially, not just physically and emotionally.
I am not looking forward to my commute home this evening.
