"Shawn Turschak of Chapel Hill was tired of someone stealing McCain-Palin campaign signs from his yard. Turschak, with a degree in electrical engineering, hooked up a third sign to a power source for an electric pet fence Monday and also put up a surveillance camera.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that a 9-year-old boy with an Obama-Biden sign grabbed the McCain-Palin sign and got a jolt on Tuesday."
"The boy's father, Andrew Noble,...said his son just wanted to see how the sign was put together."
Sure he was, sure he was. Shame on you for defending your kid's bad behavior, doofus. You probably put him up to it.
Dad, can you email me directions for setting up my own "attention-getting" sign?

The only reason I can see for sending the police is if the sign was wired incorrectly. Had a case some time back where a guy decided that he'd wire his electric fence directly from AC power, and he paid for that one with his life.
(as a EE myself, I can't claim that ALL EE's would be sensible enough to do it right)
Use a regular setup like sensible farmers use, it's "thank you sir, and well done."
