See? It can be done

Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell, working with ICE and despite vehement opposition from liberal governor Tim Kaine, has managed to round up and deport 171 illegal alien sex offenders so far in 2008.

It's amazing how the "unsolvable" problem of illegal immigration, especially those illegals who commit more crimes once they are in this country, gets fixed right quick when the people in charge decide to really buckle down and get the job done. Now, if other states will only put some effort into similar programs of their own, I predict we'd really see some progress in bouncing most of the worst chronic offenders right out of the country.

McDonnell wishes to do even more by entering into a partnership with the Feds, much like departments in states like Arizona, Alabama and North Carolina have already done, that trains local officers how to identify and refer for deportation illegal alien criminals as they move through the justice system. Governor Kaine, however, apparently must approve such partnerships in Virginia, and he is doing everything he can to put the kibosh on it:

"Gordon Hickey, a spokesman for Kaine, told CNSNews.com that the governor continues to have misgivings about asking state police officers to assume federal burdens that apparently will detract from their primary responsibilities."

Since the program primarily kicks in when illegal aliens are arrested for committing crimes or have some other contact with the criminal justice system, I would argue that it would only help the police with their primary responsibility, which is to investigate and solve crimes and get the perpetrators off the streets. If someone is arrested for a crime, subsequently determined to be here illegally and then deported, they for sure are off the streets and not committing further crimes here, correct? Problem neatly solved.

Predicably, the liberal and racist group National Council of La Raza (The Race) is raising Cain about implementing any further programs that have a chance of succeeding, just like this most recent one did:

"Elena Lacayo, the immigration legislative and field associate with the NCLR, told CNSNews.com that the Hispanic community could be further marginalized and less willing to cooperate with local authorities as a result of the 287(g) program.

'Traditionally, the immigrant community and the local police have been close allies,' said Lacayo."

Since when? That sure hasn't been my observation anywhere I've lived, and I've been all over this country, either visiting or residing.

Mr. McDonnell, commenting on the success of his operation:

"'Illegal aliens who commit crimes in Virginia cannot and should not be protected from deportation by anyone,' McDonnell told CNSNews.com. 'Criminal illegal aliens have no place in our Commonwealth. This is about the rule of law and ensuring a safe and secure society.'"

Congratulations, sir. Your effort and results are noted and appreciated.
