A most pleasant surprise

The Illinois Sheriffs' Association has officially endorsed the passage of a "shall-issue" concealed firearms bill recently introduced by a state legislator.

The sheriffs undoubtedly have noticed and wish to be part of the burgeoning wave of such legislation across the country, in order to enjoy the concomitant lack of a crime increase among such permit holders and the subsequent violent crime decreases when the local thugocracy realizes that their intended victims now have the means to successfully defend themselves.

This statement bears repeating once again: Criminals do not pay for proper training and background checks and then pop down to the local police station to apply for a permit to carry; people who are law-abiding in all aspects of their lives do. The sheriffs know they have nothing to fear from such citizens.

"A resolution of the organization, which represents the state's 102 sheriffs, says 90 percent support concealed carry if adequate training and safeguards are included."

Illinois and Wisconsin are the only two remaining states with no provision for concealed carry by its residents, although Wisconsin technically is an open-carry state for those who wish to fight the probable bogus disorderly conduct charge they'll get for exercising that right.

Hopefully, this proposed law will pass in short order despite the coming outraged protestations of such local despots as King Emperor Mayor-for Life Richard Daley, so that ordinary Illinois citizens can acquire the tools and knowledge for successful self-defense.

It is also generally lawful in Illinos to open carry on foot in unincorporated areas. See more at OpenCarry.org
