"Some stories, [the ATF agents] say, are hard to believe.
The lamest so far came from a police officer: He said he bought a few military-style rifles, left them in his car and — on the same night — forgot to lock a door. He couldn’t explain why he didn’t file a police report or why he visited Mexico the day after the alleged theft." (Emphasis mine)
We certainly hope that before the next time they go on TV or before Congress and passionately advocate the further restriction of the Constitutionally-protected rights of the common American peasant, the esteemed leaders of that particular jack-booted agency happen to recall that the most egregious suspected gunrunner their agents turned up just happened to be one of the "special people" who are the "only ones professional enough to carry firearms in public" (and the "only ones" who can buy them for legal purposes, too, it now appears).

Of course, the option of actually, say, patrolling the border to make sure that those guns being bought don't actually get to Mexico doesn't seem to have occurred to the BATFE, does it?
What a surprise there. Nah, let's maximize the bothering of our own people and minimize any discomfort to Mexico by keeping our law enforcement strictly away from the border.
