I don't make this England stuff up, you know

Now we have a Norfolk Police Authority member (whatever that is) telling residents of East Anglia in England to exaggerate their 999 calls (equivalent to 911 in the U.S.) in order to get speedier police responses. Apparently the people who have called for help get it very late or not at all, and they're upset about it, so this fellow wants them to invent more serious crimes in an effort to get a faster response (or a response at all). Naturally, his colleagues are aghast at his suggestion, and think that their work is up to par.

The town councillors disagree, however. As one states in the article,

"I think we need an open meeting with senior police representatives so that the public can meet them face-to-face and ask questions."
"But, of course, the police won't agree to that."

Amazing arrogance. The police work for the people, and should be accountable to them, but apparently that's not how it works in E-land. First they take their citizens' right to defend themselves away, and then give them shoddy police service. Criminal's paradise, anyone?
