Some resolution this is

The Pioneer Press is reporting today that Minneapolis Fire Chief Bonnie "Caligula" Bleskachek is going to resign her position by the end of the week. End of sad and sordid story, right? Hold on a minute. Bleskachek's attorney is saying that she is going to remain with the department as a captain, in order to retain her seniority and retirement benefits. The lawyer is actually spinning the fact that she is returning as a captain and not a battalion commander as some sort of goodwill gesture on her part. Read it for yourself:

"Burg said Bleskachek's contract called for her to become a battalion leader if she were removed as chief.
"The voluntary demotion she requested means she's returning as a captain," Burg said, referring to a rank lower than battalion commander."

How big of her. I can't believe that she is going to still have any type of job. Can you think of any business other than government where an employee costs an employer upwards of half a million dollars in salary, investigative costs and lawsuit settlements, and that employee still gets to keep working there? Or how about if a middle-aged white male was accused of the exact same behavior? Would all of the women's and minority groups still be as silent? I think not. More importantly, how is Bleskachek going to have any authority and credibility as the leader of a station house, with all of this baggage? Are any of the firemen going to pay the least attention to what she says? I know I wouldn't.

I feel sorry for all of my friends that live in the zone of incompetence known as Minneapolis, and have to pay for this sort of crap.
