The Justice Department today released the results of an audit of the arrest data of illegal aliens from 2004, the last year that full numbers were available. What did this audit turn up, pray tell?
Well, a sample of 100 illegal immigrants shows that 73 of them were arrested a total of 429 times. These were not arrests for merely being in the country, mind you, but re-arrests for criminal offenses after being released on bond from the immigration violation. These arrests ranged from traffic tickets to serious felonies. This extrapolates to each immigrant being re-arrested as many as six times each after being released from custody on the original charge of being in the country illegally. This is an arrest rate much higher than the general population, and refutes the theory we get from liberals that all illegals are here only to work and live peacefully, and to become the average American.
This data tends to support a theory of mine, that mores and values are much different in other countries in regards to societal conduct and what behavior is tolerated, and gives evidence that the illegal immigrants are not here to assimilate and become Americans, but to be citizens of their home country that just happen to be here, in order to work and get as much out of the U.S. as they can, and damn the rules.
An example of this kind of conduct, although involving legal immigrants, but illustrating the same principle would be the Somali cab drivers at the Minneapolis-St.Paul Airport who do not want to carry passengers who have unopened liquor in their luggage, or refuse to transport blind passengers with service dogs, because they believe the animals to be unclean. Somalis also apparently want a "prayer room" at the airport that is separate from the room used by all of the other religions, claiming that "Where you have Christians and Muslims praying at the same time, it will create a problem". This behavior may be perfectly acceptable in Somalia, but the drivers are here now, and supposedly want to be Americans. This means that they have to abide by our customs and value systems. Legal immigrants are welcome here, religion and all, but they must be willing to not use their religion to govern all aspects of reasonable commerce and interaction with American society. We don't allow it for any other religion. Just look at all of the sanitizing of Christmas decorations that has taken place in public places in recent years.
The most interesting fact I gleaned from this article is that the city of San Francisco was awarded 1.1 million dollars in Homeland Security funds to help catch and hold illegal aliens, even though they do everything possible to undermine the flow of illegals in that part of the country.
From the article:
[San Francisco] "defines itself as a "city and county of refuge" and does not allow federal agents to view immigration jail records without permission from local police."
Wonderful. Can anyone tell me why they deserve a dime of federal funding? If they want to have that policy, then go for it, I'm all for states' rights, but then let them pay to clean up their own mess. I don't want my tax money funding such a dipstick policy. What exactly are they using all that money for, then? I think it's time for a deeper audit from Congress.
Think it'll happen now that Nancy Pelosi is Speaker of the House?
