...is Kewaskum, Wisconsin Police Chief Richard Knoebel. He was driving through town when he became distracted by a truck stopping on the side of the road, and passed a stopped school bus with its lights flashing and stop-arm extended. When he realized what he had done, he immediately wrote himself a ticket for the violation. This is no parking ticket, either; the penalty is $235 and four points on his license.
From the article:
""When we get someone for not stopping for a flashing school bus we give them a citation. So I shouldn't be any different so I did," Knoebel said."
I am just about speechless with this officer's honesty and integrity. Instead of weaseling out of taking responsibility for his error with some nonsense argument about how he was on official business or something, he held himself accountable like he does everyone else, admitted his mistake, took his lumps and moved on. If every officer were like Chief Knoebel I sure wouldn't have much to blog about.
Good show, sir. You can be my chief anytime.
Note to Kewaksum residents: You officially now have no excuse if you receive the same ticket. Just clam up and pay the fine.
