California, Here I (Don't) Come. Ever.

More forced redistribution of income has been teed up in Ol' Californy.

Proposed legislation, which incredibly has bipartisan support in the Legislature (I guess that fact's not too shocking, given Governor RINO there) has been introduced which would give every child born in California a $500 savings account, to be used for college, a down payment on a home, or an IRA.

Of course, "fairness" will be of paramount importance, so

"every child born in California after Jan. 1, 2008, would receive the money, regardless of their parents' income or immigration status." (Emphasis mine)

Bill Gates moves to Cali? His kids get the money. An illegal immigrant sneaks over the border and delivers her child the next day? Yep, they get the money too.

Where did they get the idea for this wonderful program? Regular readers of this blog know the answer:

"A similar program has increased savings in Great Britain since 2002".

Of course it's increased savings, you're taking money from taxpayers at gunpoint, keeping it for 18 years or so, and then giving it away to people, whether they need or deserve it or not. It's kind of hard to screw up that kind of savings plan.

"The proposal would cost taxpayers about $285 million a year."

Wheee!! Spending money is fun when it's not yours!! Everyone should try it!!

""Dutton said the money would be "an investment in the child's future," said his spokesman, Larry Venus. "He looks at this as a hand up, not a hand out.""

I look at ducks and think "turkey" but that don't make it so.

""But look, we spend so much more on things that don't have nearly as much significant value.""

Now that's the first true thing I've heard a lawmaker say in a long, long time. Freudian?
