Coward of the (Cook) County

One of the most ardent believers of the erroneous "only cops are professional enough to have guns" argument is Chicago Mayor Richard Daley. He is anti-gun rights for the peasantry, to the point of refusing to certify his own retired police officers to carry concealed weapons in the city, in direct violation of the Federal law that allows them to do so. That's another unfair issue that we'll take up later. Why are retired cops any different from you or me? Of course, it's easy to have an anti-gun position when you have a private army of police officers to guard you and your family 24 hours a day, but you know, he's the king and all.

Well, one of his elite has gotten himself into some trouble. Anthony Abbate, a 12-year veteran Chicago cop who weighs 250 pounds, was arrested for beating the crap out of a 115-pound female bartender in front of several people for daring to refuse him service, apparently because he was intoxicated. Fortunately, the bar had a surveillance camera, so police were able to quickly identify Abbate (I hope so, since he worked for them). The most amazing part of the story is:

"Bond said authorities were notified of the incident on February 21 but were unable to locate Abbate until mid-March."

He was a big enough man to assault a female half his size, but not man enough to turn himself in to face the consequences of his actions.

I don't see a lot of permit holders going around exhibiting this kind of behavior, Mayor Daley. Can you please explain this?
