In a stunning reversal of events, the Senate today declined to invoke cloture and end debate on the illegal alien amnesty bill, effectively killing it for the year.
Eighteen Senators who voted to restart the debate on Tuesday switched their votes, apparently because they were starting to get a little nervous about keeping their jobs in the face of voter opposition to the legislation.
This is a testament to the power of the American people, who shut down the Senate switchboard this morning with calls demanding that this idiotic bill be defeated. The legislators have now been reminded in no uncertain terms that they work for us, serve at our pleasure, and ignore our wishes at their political peril.
Special thanks have to go to the efforts of Republican Senators John Cornyn, Jeff Sessions, and Jim DeMint, as well as Democratic Senators Jon Tester and Claire McCaskill, for not giving up and continuing to get the message out about how bad this bill was for America.
Let's hope that Congress finally gets the message: Secure the border. Only after that is accomplished can we then start to clean up the mess that 21 years of shoddy enforcement of immigration law has gotten us.
