Here it comes

John Edwards, one of the candidates for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2008, has decided that if he gets to run things, you will be dragged to the doctor on a regular basis, whether you want to or not:

"Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards said on Sunday that his universal health care proposal would require that Americans go to the doctor for preventive care." (Emphasis mine)

"He noted, for example, that women would be required to have regular mammograms in an effort to find and treat "the first trace of problem." (Again, emphasis mine )

Is preventive care an important and desirable thing for all Americans to have? Yes. Should one be dragged from one's home by the "health police" and bused to the local clinic should one decline to take advantage of this proposed Stalinistic health care system? Apparently Mr. Edwards thinks the answer to that is yes, as well.

In the article, Edwards accidentally? lets slip the overriding liberal vision for America:

"'The whole idea is a continuum of care, basically from birth to death,' he said."

Charming. The nanny state will take care of things for you, and responsibility on your part will no longer be required. The cost? Only one's freedom to make their own choices about how they want to live their life, without the interference of government.

Not a bargain at all, in my opinion.
