England retains its title as the nanny-state champ

I spoke too soon the other day when I posited that Australia was fast catching up to England in the nanny-state race. England unfortunately is still the clear leader, as this story helps prove.

A couple in that security paradise was playing with their 11-month-old daughter in a park, and decided to take a picture of her while she was having fun on a swingset.

Well, that's apparently a no-no in this particular "fun" place. A "park warden" (A playground cop? Good Lord.) approached the couple and told them that it was "inappropriate" to document their kid's good time, and demanded that they stop immediately.

Here's what the dad, Steve Brook, had to say about the incident:

"It beggars belief," said Steve, 35. "The fact that a mummy and daddy can't take a picture of their own daughter is ridiculous. I could understand if it was in a swimming pool, but she was well wrapped-up and as far as I could see we were the only people in the park."

How wrapped up?

I'm with you, Steve. The policy is absoutely ridiculous, but you've got to remember the level of rigid incompetence that you're dealing with when it comes to your leaders over there. Until you and the rest of your countrymen decide to take your nation back, it's only going to get worse for you.

"This incident was due to the incorrect interpretation of policy by a member of our security staff who has since been made aware of his actions."

Was he actually unaware of his own actions until informed?
