Don't hack up thy neighbor

More ethnic strife in Africa, this time in Kenya, formerly thought to be one of the most stable countries of that continent.

I'm sure the members of the Kikuyu tribe are fervently wishing that they had their own version of the Second Amendment, in order to have the means to protect themselves against the fanatical neighbors and former friends who are now trying to hack their heads off.

"Many of these Kikuyu homes and businesses were attacked by neighbors who lived beside them for decades."

Madness.

Of course, the killers are quick to reassure the newsmen that it's "nothing personal":

"Although he had gone hunting for Kikuyus without knowing how they voted, that was only to put pressure on Kibaki, he said. 'This is purely political,' he concluded, waving his machete to make his point".

I'm sure his victims will be comforted by that fact.

As I was telling an extremely intelligent and compassionate but very young and naive woman just yesterday, there are sometimes people in this world who want you harmed or killed for evil or irrational reasons, or even for no reason at all, and that when the "authorities" are not around, unresponsive or even nonexistent, there are times when one has to be prepared to take responsibility for one's own personal defense. It doesn't make one a bad person or paranoid, just prepared, because situations like this Kenya mess indeed happen, even in today's world.
