Some people are doomed to repeat history

The Anti-Defamation League, an organization that purports to represent the best interests of the Jewish people, has filed a brief supporting the city government of the District of Columbia in the upcoming Supreme Court case of D.C. v. Heller. The ADL, like the D.C. City Council and Mayor, apparently believes that the total ban on handgun possession and requiring that long guns be locked at all times by the residents of Washington is a "reasonable restriction" that somehow preserves the "liberty" of the city's residents. Here's some of their twisted thinking on the subject, straight from their own press release:

"The League urged the Court to ensure that states retain the ability to keep guns out of the hands of 'violent bigots.'"

News flash, ADL - "Violent bigots" are going to obtain weapons regardless of what laws are passed forbidding them to. Wouldn't it be nice for law-abiding citizens to be able to defend themselves against these people that you're so afraid of?

"If states lose the right to regulate firearm ownership, it would help violent bigots in their efforts to create an America based on hate and intolerance."

Violent bigots also like to march in demonstrations, and have web sites, audio and video recordings and publications that espouse their views, much like your very own website, ADL. Do you want to overturn the First Amendment as well as the Second? What are you going to do when a totalitarian government declares your site to be a bigoted place, and shuts it down? Didn't think about that, did you?

"This case is about allowing states to protect their citizens' lives, liberty and property by regulating the purchase and possession of firearms."

You've got it backwards, unfortunately. The citizens can protect their own lives and property just fine, thank you, provided the likes of you stay out of their way.

You'd think that Jews, of all people, would realize the danger of disarming the population of a country, leaving them to the tender mercies of a government that could turn on them at any moment. Fortunately, there are some organizations that are composed of historically oppressed groups, such as Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership and the Pink Pistols, that "get it" when it comes to the idea of the Second Amendment being about the protection of a free citizenry from the tyranny of their own out-of-control government, and who are actively fighting to ensure that no one is ever again deprived of a means to fight for their freedom.

The sad irony is that the ADL, were they headquartered in Israel, would be laughed out of the country if they were stupid enough to push for this kind of court decision there. Israelis understand all too well that there is evil and hate in the world, and no amount of feel good legislation or taking away of inherent rights is going to stop it.

This post is dedicated to the brave people of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, who held off the German Army for three solid weeks in the spring of 1943. Even some of us Gentiles haven't forgotten their courage and determination, and will forever admire their heroism.

Yeah, to all that, except moreso.

And it's a pity. The ADL has, all in all, done terrific work over -- literally -- generations. That they're bugfuck crazy on the gun issue is, well, annoying.
