Big Brother wants your cameras as well

Do you live or work in New South Wales, Australia and have a security camera system at your location? If so, the local police are going to pay you a visit very soon, as they wish to add your gear to their own ever-expanding network, so as to better monitor the comings and goings of yourself and all of the other peasants.

All of this is ostensibly for "fighting terror", of course, although one of the architects of this scheme is already coming up with additional ways to use your property:

"'CCTV is also a great crime prevention tool with criminals less likely to commit offences in areas monitored by security cameras.'"

I hope they contact Shelagh Fogarty of BBC Radio and ask her how well camera saturation works as a "crime prevention tool".

"'The benefits of CCTV don't stop there. CCTV can be crucial in identifying offenders and solving crimes and also serves as an important evidentiary purpose.'" (Emphasis mine)

Except when cops are the ones under investigation, eh, Utah State Senator Chris Buttars?
