A British BBC Radio reporter, mystified at the large amount of mayhem and thuggery being complained about by the peasants despite the official government line of "All is well, crime is down" and "There are no guns on the street, we banned them", decides to go to her hometown of Liverpool and check out the situation for herself.
Well, she got quite the education in what is really happening on a daily basis over there.
The first night, she was talking to some people on a street when a group of 40 or more "yobs" started pelting her and her crew with glass bottles and rocks, forcing them to run for cover.
The next evening, she was standing on the side of a road when a car passed her slowly, and someone inside rolled down a window and pointed a gun at her. The car then drove off.
"'There was also a CCTV van in the road, and they would of seen that, so that makes their attack even more audacious because they did it right in front of the CCTV camera.'"
Imagine that. A surveillance camera failing to prevent a crime, or in any way slow down the gangbangers from doing whatever they please.
One never wants to see innocent people frightened or put into jeopardy, but on the other hand there's nothing like having one's own life and safety threatened to drive home the importance of being able to use weapons for one's own personal defense. Cameras are nice and all, but they only serve to document the actual crime, and fail to prevent anything, as Shelagh Fogarty unfortunately found out the other night.
If you want to see the growing frustration of the common British person, check out the comments at the end of the article. They're not very sympathetic to Ms. Fogarty's weekend plight at all, as that only exemplifies the kinds of things that they have to deal with every day.
