Cautiously optimistic

The oral arguments in the Supreme Court case of D.C. v. Heller were made yesterday, and it seems to have gone very well for Mr. Heller and the other residents of the District of Columbia (including my father), and by extension every other American citizen who wants to exercise their right to defend themselves and their families with a firearm. Chief Justice John Roberts seems to have summed it up nicely:

"What is reasonable about a total ban on possession (of handguns)?"

We should know around June if the rest of the Justices agree with this rationale.

Special thanks should go to Professor Joe Olson of Hamline University Law School in St. Paul, Minnesota, who helped the lawyers for Heller prepare their arguments.
