Buying votes

Democratic Congressional leaders, panicking about their Messiah's slippage in the polls, have come up with yet another scheme to take money away from some taxpayers at gunpoint and give it away to others - gas stamps.

The proposed program would be similar to the one for food stamps, another failed government "entitlement" that didn't help anyone improve their lot for generations until Bill Clinton was forced to reform the system in 1996, adding a time limit for benefits.

"Under one version of the proposal, a person earning up to $31,200 or a family of four earning up to $63,600 could receive government payments totaling $500 for gas."

Who decides which people and what income levels would qualify for this largesse? Why, the likes of ol' Charlie Rangel, a person who just can't seem to keep track of his own finances, much less those of the country.

This is nothing more than a blatant attempt to use public funds in order to buy votes. What's worse, they're happy to admit it:

"Democratic strategists say gas stamps could help Democrats appeal to rural and exurban voters and may tip swing states to Obama."

Bread and circuses.
