Still innocent

In a followup to a story we commented on during last month's Democratic convention, the Denver prosecutor has indeed found that Joseph Calanchini committed no crime by coincidentally checking into the same hotel as Nancy Pelosi with his legally owned and transported firearms.

Fortunately, he managed to still make his hunting trip to Africa, albeit with a rented rifle.

"Denver DA's spokeswoman Robin Finegan said Monday she didn't know why no state charges had been filed"

I'll take a wild stab at that one. Because he wasn't guilty of a crime. Mr. Calanchini couldn't possibly have known that the Speaker was staying at the same hotel, as that information isn't released "for security reasons", of course. Even if he did know, so what? He was behaving in a perfectly lawful manner, and presented no threat to Ms. Pelosi whatsoever. At the most he should have been quietly questioned and then sent on his way.

Now, if the Secret Service would only return Mr. Calanchini's firearms and other personal property, the matter can be laid to rest.
