Why I carry a handgun for protection, Volume 5

Because, contrary to the vociferous protestations of the Brady crowd, there really are deranged people in the world who will board a subway and attack an innocent passenger for no reason with a hammer, wounding them badly, while at least ten people sit by and do nothing.

"For five long minutes, SEPTA surveillance cameras captured the deranged attacker - who was still on the loose late last night- digging his hammer into the man's head and neck."

Those cameras sure helped the victim out quite a bit, didn't they?

"'I'm baffled,' Roach said. 'He had no reason to do that. It was unprovoked. The victim was just going home from work, minding his own business, listening to his iPod.'"

Psychos such as this don't need a reason to go off. They just do. Which is why they're so difficult to predict and prepare for.

The very real possibility of a situation such as this happening to myself or my family is one of the reasons why I undertook the training to responsibly carry a firearm on a daily basis. What are you doing to prepare for such a scenario?

Darned shame that no carry permit holder was on hand to help that jerk drop the hammer and/or assume room temperature.
