Gun control doesn't work on the high seas, either

According to a caller to the Tom Sullivan Fox Radio show yesterday who claimed to be a retired captain for the company, not only does the Maersk Line forbid sailors on board its vessels to be armed, it complains mightily about paying the overtime for crewmembers to stand overnight watch on the bow, sides and stern of the ships in thug-infested areas in order to identify and repel pirate boarding attempts.

Of course, the pirates know this fact, and choose their defenseless targets accordingly.

This is a wonderfully illustrative example, albeit writ large, of why the legal carrying of firearms by law-abiding citizens reduces the U.S. crime rate so much. If the bandits knew that some of the ships they were going to board were equipped with enough firepower to promptly send them to Buccaneer Heaven, they wouldn't be so bold about plying their trade.
