"The Third Reich passes a law requiring Jews to wear a prominent yellow star in public."
A regulation that was perfectly legal in Nazi Germany at that time. It was ostensibly passed to protect the "good German citizenry" from the "dirty Jews".
Did its technical legality somehow make it moral or right?
Absolutely not, of course. Which is exactly why we would do well to remember just how easily such unjust and unfair "laws" can be imposed on the peasant masses by the powerful elites, and why we must make sure to limit the scope of our government's power and authority (by forcing them to adhere to the Bill of Rights, for one example) in order to prevent such an abuse from ever happening again.
We had a good friend while growing up in Maryland who happened to be a Polish Holocaust survivor.
Rest in peace, Edward Bomba.
