Why I carry a handgun for protection, Vol. 22

So that when two armed teenage thugs storm into my backyard party and rob myself, my family and guests (which happened twice in South Minneapolis this weekend, once early Saturday and once early Sunday), shooting one party-goer in the process, I will be able to fight back and defend my home and occupants against the attackers.

The neighborhood where the crimes took place isn't the best in town, but neither is it Crackton, which just goes to show that random violent crime can happen to anyone anywhere at any time, even to law-abiding citizens simply trying to enjoy a holiday weekend barbecue at their home.

"'We want people to enjoy their evening, but we want them to be a little cautious,' [MPD spokesman Sgt. William Palmer] said. 'And we want people who see something suspicious to call 911.'"

Good advice, but not particularly helpful when the criminals are already on your property while demanding your money and goods at gunpoint. You are unfortunately going to be completely on your own at that point, so please be equipped, trained and mentally prepared to deal successfully with the situation yourself.
