7 years for this?

A young police officer in England sees a man that he recognizes as a convicted robber who has violated his parole. He attempts to stop and arrest the man. The man then throws a container of sulfuric acid into the policeman's face. (warning: graphic picture of the man's injuries)

After six months, the police officer is scarred for life, and is still not able to go out into the direct sunlight.

The criminal? He gets put away for a mere 7 years, and shows no remorse at his sentencing.

If that's all the time one gets for doing something such as that, it's no wonder the criminals are getting so brazen over there. He'll probably be out in 3 for good behavior, and back to his old tricks in no time. It's a wonder they can get anyone at all to be a cop over there.
