Another example of England's gun ban failing

I promise, at some point I'll pick on some other European countries. (France, you're on deck) It's just so very hard to pass up all the news on England, however, because there's so much of it, and it's a stark illustration of just what will come to pass in America if gun registration and eventual confiscation takes place, just as it did there.

The Independent newspaper has published a study that identifies the center of the city of Birmingham as the "gun capital" of England, with the highest level of shootings and "gun incidents", defined as any incident where the firearm is discharged, used as a blunt instrument, or used to threaten a person, such as in a robbery. This area has a rate of 1 incident for every 207 residents. The two halves of the city center of Manchester, quaintly known as "Gunchester", combine for the second and third highest levels. North Manchester alone has an incident rate of 1 in every 351. This means that in these two areas one stands roughly a 1 in 280 chance of being the victim of some kind of gun crime. That is an awfully high rate for a country that has completely "banned" guns, now isn't it? Keep in mind that the average resident of these cities has absolutely no chance of fighting back, since self-defense knives are now banned as well (that ban's not working either), and English people have been jailed for assault for merely defending themselves from criminals.

This stunning "success", in addition to Canada's gun registry "scheme" failing miserably despite blowing well over a billion dollars on it, should be ample evidence for America's politicians that this type of legislation not only fails to reduce crime, it actually increases one's chances of becoming a victim, and it wastes untold dollars and resources to boot.

I have a soft spot for Birmingham, as it is the home city of one of my favorite bands, Judas Priest. I have always wanted to visit one of these days, but not with those odds.
