Another police official on the immigration front lines

A few days ago, I blogged about how Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, has 1,000 illegal immigrants in his jail, and how the Federal Government doesn't seem to care.

Today's example of local law enforcement having to deal with illegal immigration is Chief Edwin Williams of Roswell, Georgia. Every day for about 10 years, Chief Williams has faxed his booking sheets to the INS (or ICE, as it is called this week). In the past 9 months alone, he has faxed the names of 1,396 illegal aliens. The ICE has picked up 3. Three. Three.

From the article:

"Once, an immigration official called to say the police department was wasting its time with the daily faxes, Williams said. So the jailers quit. When the chief found out, he went ballistic. "I said 'You will continue,' " Williams recalled. "I don't care if they just throw it away. It's my fax paper."

Unbelievable. An immigration "official" deigning to call an honest, hardworking police official to tell him to stop "wasting" his valuable time. How dare you. Do your job, the way Sheriff Arpaio and Chief Williams do theirs - with honesty and integrity, to the best of their abilities. If you need more money, ask for it, but do not blow your job off. if people are here illegally and are identified to you, get them deported. Now.

And, for me, the quote of the year:

"Williams said he's coached his officers to treat everyone the same."

That's all I ask of anyone. Good show, sir.

As I have written previously, I only ask two things of the Imperial Federal Government:

1. Control our borders

2. Provide for the common defense.

DO YOUR JOB.
