Former Vice President Al Gore, who picked up an Oscar last night for his documentary about the theory of global warming, then smugly tried to "announce" a Presidential run before being dragged off the stage, has some 'splainin to do.
According to the Tennessee Center for Policy Research, a non-partisan think tank, Gore's Tennessee home used 221,000 kilowatt hours in 2006, which is approximately 20 times what the average homeowner uses. In August 2006 alone, Gore's home used 22,619 kilowatt hours - twice what the average house uses in an entire YEAR. If that weren't enough, Gore also used about $1,000 worth of natural gas per month as well. I'm surprised his electric and gas dials haven't spun right off the meter.
That's an amazing amount of energy usage from someone who preaches so arrogantly to ordinary Americans about how wasteful they are, and how they need to change every facet of their lifestyle to save energy, or risk catastrophic climate change. In fact, if I recall correctly, his children are all grown and out of the house, which means that all of this energy usage is for just TWO people - himself and Parents Music Resource Center founder and all-around busybody Tipper Gore, who was expertly and decisively slapped down by Twisted Sister lead singer Dee Snider in a Congressional hearing on September 19, 1985. (Check out these links if you want to read how Snider made both Gores look like absolute fools.)
I guess Gore believes, much like Barbra Streisand, that energy conservation is for the peasants, and that rich and famous celebrities and politicians should be exempt from the policies that they advocate so forcefully. Let them eat cake, you know.
