More from our favorite criminal coddling country

Lord Chief Justice Lord Phillips (how many "lords" does one need in their name, anyhow?), the highest judge in England and Wales, is of the opinion that recent sentencing guideline changes for murderers are "regrettable", as it has the effect of "ratcheting up sentences", and makes the poor inmates serve too long in prison:

"He questioned the need for a mandatory life sentence for murder and voiced doubts murder law reforms would succeed".

Previously, murderers could get out in as little as eight years, depending on their crime. Judges had great discretion in sentencing, which has apparently been taken away from them, and guys like Phillips are whining about it.

Let's see, disarm the law-abiding population, then let murderers out because you feel "sorry" for them and don't want them to grow old in jail. Great priorities there, sir. How's that been working out for you?

Oh, right.

A reader comment on the article sums it up quite nicely:

"Until decision makers have a member of their family murdered they will never understand how much pain it causes"
Ian Regan, UK

Sounds like Mr. Regan should be named the Lord High Imperious Leader, or whatever the job title is.
