Careful - you don't want to hurt the robbers and thieves

I've gotten a lot of new readers in the past few weeks, so I believe that I should explain something before I move forward with today's topic, so that those readers can understand what I am trying to do, and put my comments into the proper context.

We here at the Northern Muckraker pick on England. A lot. The reason we do so is that we used to visit that country, and we really enjoy the people, the history and culture, the food, and especially the real ale, among many other things. Unfortunately for the English people, they are subjects, instead of citizens, and their nanny-state government has in recent years made an absolute joke of their society, restricting all manner of liberties and freedoms, and stepping up immensely the video surveillance of the common peasant, while simultaneously coddling and protecting the thugs and "yobs" that prey on them.

The learned leaders there have also unilaterally imposed on the masses a socialized health care system that is falling apart at the seams, and which leaves people with multi-year waits for treatment for even serious conditions. Of course, the leaders and the muckety-mucks such as the royal family aren't under any such restrictions, and enjoy the highest levels of private health care and the protection of armed guards with automatic weapons, among other perks. If you do a search on the word "England" on this blog, you'll find many examples of just how bad the common person is getting the shaft there.

This state of affairs frightens us here at the NM because the radical liberal left in this country holds up England as a model of what they would like the U.S. to become. In order to try and counter this, we frequently post and comment on articles that show just how warped things have gotten in Britain, and we refuse to spend one penny of our travel budget to visit there until they get their affairs in order.

Now, on to today's lunacy:

A woman in England has her home burglarized and thousands of dollars in possessions stolen while she is away caring for her cancer-ridden brother. She reports the crime to local police, whose sum total response is to give her a manual about upgrading her home security. When she inquires about upgrading her security fence and maybe putting barbed wire on top, the cops helpfully point to the section in the manual that "she could risk prosecution herself if the trespassers hurt themselves on the beefed-up gate."

We see again how the benevolent British government allows its residents to protect themselves from criminals - not at all.

My favorite sentence in the article is the last one:

"Adequate home security advice for homeowners is available from Rugby Police Station in Newbold Road."

I guess it all depends on what one's definition of "adequate" is.
