A quick exit, thankfully

Charles Freeman, the Obama administration's execrable pick for chairman of the National Intelligence Council, has withdrawn his nomination for that position. True to his apparently hateful nature, he took today's media coverage of his resignation to bash the "Pro-Israel lobby" as the root cause of his professional implosion, as he claims these mysterious people somehow libeled him beyond recognition.

Nothing could be further from the truth. As we noted yesterday, and as ABC's Jake Tapper concurs, Freeman's own asinine comments sank his job prospects:

"What's perplexing about this that so much of what critics objected to were Freeman's statements, in full context."

Freeman also sent an angry, conspiracy theory-ridden missive to Tapper, the contents of which only further clarify why there was so much opposition to his appointment to such a sensitive post. It's here if you must read it, although you're not missing much.

One can only imagine how many incompetent, unbalanced and just plain evil people slipped through the cracks and received powerful government positions before the Internet came along, which thankfully now allows us peasants to carefully scrutinize the candidates' records on their own when the major media fails to do their jobs, as in this case.

Thousands, probably.
