That sure settles the issue

One of Dear Leader's core constituencies has once again been merrily thrown under the bus:

"At today's briefing, Jay Carney again clarifies that another aide was mistaken to claim that Obama did not sign a questionnaire supporting same-sex marriage.

Obama has been 'very clear that his position is evolving.'"  (emphasis ours)

Yeah, that kind of mealy-mouthed pap will go a long way towards pacifying the justifiably growing very angry gay community, which like so many other voting blocs has been waiting for close to three years for their turn to be "taken care of" by the man they helped put into the Oval Office after he made all of those flowery promises to them.

We hope they're not in some kind of hurry or anything, because it looks like Obama's "evolution" on the issue is proceeding at about the same pace as species evolution.

Why I carry a handgun for protection, Vol. 47

Because roving packs of hoodie-clad feral youths are prowling the streets randomly assaulting innocent pedestrians for no other reason than a person's perceived sexual orientation:

"Barie Shortell, 29, was walking down North Fourth Street in Williamsburg at around 10 p.m. on Feb. 22 when a group of teens started taunting him, according to The Brooklyn Paper.

Shortell told The Paper the teens started to mock him and began yelling anti-gay slurs so he decided to cross to Wyeth Avenue to be on the safe side.

That is when the hoodie-wearing gang of teens shoved him against a wall and started attacking him. Although he was not robbed, he suffered a fractured jaw, broken nose and eye sockets."

We note with no small amount of frustration that this brutal and unprovoked attack occurred in Brooklyn, which is part of  Mayor Michael Bloomberg's anti-gun paradise of New York City.  Gee, a lawfully owned-and-carried handgun might have really come in handy here, eh, Mayor?  We don't know if you realize this, sir, but not everyone in your town rates a 24-hour armed police guard like the one you are fortunate enough to have (and even bring on vacation with you to Bermuda, all at taxpayer expense, of course).

Gay people concerned about becoming victims of similar bias crimes and who desire to learn more about lawfully defending themselves with firearms should definitely check out the Pink Pistols, a stellar gun-rights organization that welcomes members of all sexual identities but which especially reaches out to gays.  Their motto?  "Armed Gays Don't Get Bashed".

Yep.

One man alone apparently now decides which laws govern us

President Obama has now taken the unprecedented step of unilaterally ordering the Justice Department to not defend a federal law under court challenge, in this case the Defense of Marriage Act.

As always with such matters concerning "Justice", Attorney General Eric Holder is leading the charge in trampling the rule of law:

"'[T]he President has concluded that given a number of factors, including a documented history of discrimination, classifications based on sexual orientation should be subject to a more heightened standard of scrutiny,'  Mr. Holder said. 'The President has also concluded that Section 3 of DOMA, as applied to legally married same-sex couples, fails to meet that standard and is therefore unconstitutional. Given that conclusion, the President has instructed the Department not to defend the statute in such cases. I fully concur with the President’s determination.'"

Why, we don't need courts at all anymore in this country.   Messrs. Obama and Holder have apparently decided that they are the final arbiters about which laws are constitutional and which aren't, and the other two branches of government can simply go suck eggs.

This overreaching of authority on the part of Dear Leader has nothing to do with the issue of gay marriage, no matter what side of that contentious issue one favors, but rather is all about a rogue executive branch arrogantly ignoring a statute which was enacted by Congress, signed into law by a president and which has not to date been struck down by a court.

In other words, Dear Leader has just circumvented our entire system of government by basically telling the nation's law enforcement department not to enforce a law.  It doesn't matter one bit if that statute concerns a hot-button issue such as gay rights or such a mundane one as the maximum weight of a semitrailer on the interstate - it's the law of the land until it is repealed or struck down, and the Justice Department is duty bound to prosecute under its auspices and defend any challenges to it in court.

Until today, as one more bit of our Constitution is flagrantly discarded by this community organizer and his minions.

The craziest thing about this whole story is that Dear Leader still can't bring himself to take a position one way or the other on the very issue at hand:

"The White House says President Barack Obama is "grappling" with his personal views on gay marriage even as he's ordered the Justice Department to stop defending the constitutionality of a law that bans it."

The only thing about this entire matter he's "grappling" about is the fact that his liberal base overwhelmingly supports gay marriage while at the same time his black voter base overwhelmingly does not.  He needs both constituencies to win reelection in 2012, so it will be very interesting to watch him squirm, vacillate and ultimately not take a position one way or the other.  Such indecisiveness on his part truly illustrates the opportunistic, rudderless, incompetent leader he really is.

Even a broken clock is right sometimes

President Obama signs legislation allowing gays to serve in the military.

Good.  We don't care what people do or who they date in their private lives.  If they can do the job properly and honorably they deserve to serve their country.

Why should they believe him?

We've previously noted how a core group of the Messiah's supporters was beginning to realize that it was being played like a cheap fiddle.

Well, the grumblings are now getting much louder:

"President Barack Obama restated his campaign pledge to allow homosexual men and women to serve openly in the military, but many in his audience of gay activists were left wondering when he would make good on the promise.

'I will end 'don't ask-don't tell,'' Obama said Saturday night to a standing ovation from the crowd of about 3,000 at the annual dinner of the Human Rights Campaign, a gay civil rights advocacy group. He offered no timetable or specifics and he acknowledged some may be growing impatient."

This change could be unilaterally made by Obama at any time, wouldn't cost a dime of taxpayer money and would garner him some much-needed credibility among his faithful followers by showing that he's willing to fulfill at least one of the many flowery campaign promises he made to so many people.

So what's the holdup? We honestly don't know, unless it's a fear of upsetting yet another group of his fervent supporters, the religious black community.

It certainly isn't tentativeness, because as we all know (mostly to our detriment), the President has shown a ready willingness to blunder about making massive changes in just about every other facet of government, whether he knows anything about the objects of his meddling or not.
